RESCO Solar Model for Rural Areas

India has a set goal of producing 100GW of grid-connected solar energy setups across India. Installation of rooftop solar energy setups has been growing rapidly due to multiple factors such as rising costs of conventional electricity, low installation cost of solar setup, frequent power outrage, high radiation levels, exhaustion of non-renewable resources, pollution and global warming.

One of the most famous approaches to setting up a rooftop solar panel is the RESCO model. A solar microgrid india is formulated as a rooftop solar energy project and is planned, developed, financed, installed and operated by a solar epc company in india under the RESCO model. The power generated from the rooftop solar energy project is supplied to the consumer residing in the premises.

What is a RESCO Solar Model?

RESCO is a Renewable Energy Service Company, that initiated a solar resco model developed with a zero investment approach specifically for rural areas and urban cities. In a RESCO model, the solar energy panel is owned by the Village Solar Solutions Company India, the user pays solely for the energy/power used in the premises. RESCO model is ideal for those consumers who cannot afford to own a solar panel at their premises. The RESCO company install a solar panel at the premises and charge the consumers solely for the power consumed. This method is way more cost-saving than conventional electricity supply.

A Capex offer is when a solar epc company in india install solar power panels at your premises, and you become the owner of the solar asset. The consumer invests and owns the system.

RESCO model is called Solar OPEX

Under the PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), the solar resco model retains complete ownership of the solar energy project throughout the PPA agreement and has full responsibility for installing, operating and maintaining the solar power project. The RESCO model was developed to motivate and boost the installation of solar energy projects across the country. Once the PPA term is completed, the ownership of the solar project is transferred to the customer.

Advantages of RESCO Model

RESCO and CAPEX models are two different solar energy project models which are mainly differentiated based on ownership but fulfill the same purpose. In a solar resco model, the company is liable to bear all operational and maintenance costs, the consumer only pays for the power/energy consumed. According to the PPA term agreement, the customer is only liable to pay for using the energy/power similar to leasing. The ownership belongs to the RESCO company.

 1.Less Expensive

The RESCO model is less expensive compared to the CAPEX model as the company bears all costs including operations and maintenance costs. The customer only pays for the energy/power consumed through the solar grid.

2.  Ownership Belongs to the Company

According to the project's PPA, the ownership belongs to the RESCO company. The company is fully liable for installing, operating, monitoring, managing and maintaining the rooftop solar project under the solar resco model.

3.  Additional Revenue From RESCO Model

The state rule allows RESCO to sell excess power/electricity generated from the solar grid for an attractive feed-in tariff to generate more revenue from the rooftop RESCO project.
