Understanding the Role of Cement Kilns in the Production of Cement

Cement kilns play an important role for cement plant machinery manufacturers. Cement kilns are used in the processing stage of manufacturing Portland cement and many other hyaluronic cement types. Cement kilns are basically rotary machines that are long cylindrical things that keep rotating every one or two minutes. Its axis is slightly inclined towards the burner.

This rotation allows the raw materials to move from the hot portion of the burner. To the cold one. The cement kilns were introduced in the 1890s and became famous worldwide in the early 20th century. As time passed, it evolved and became more advanced.

Here are some types of kilns:

Wet-process kilns

Wet-process kilns were the earliest rotary cement kilns. They were not very complicated; they were simple. The raw materials were set to the rotating temperature to make a slurry. A wet process kiln can be 200 m long and have a 6 m diameter. It has a long structure because a huge amount of water needs to be evaporated. Around 40% water can be found in the slurry.

The evaporation process needs a lot of energy, and hence the wet process needs to be evolved for better results.

Dry-process kilns

In dry-process kilns, the raw material gets into the kilns through the preheater tower. The hot gas and, mostly, the cooled clicker from the kilns are used to heat the raw meals. As it enters the preheater tower, it is already hot before it enters the kilns. The thermal spray powder suppliers say that the dry process kilns are thermally structured as compared to the wet process kilns. This is because the raw meal is dry and in powder form, which contains a small amount of water or sometimes no water at all that has to be evaporated.

The process of transmitting heat is more methodical in a dry-process kiln. This process is preferred by diffusion engineers.

The "suspension preheater’ is an integral part of the dry process kiln as it is a heat exchanger. This tower has a series of cyclones as it has a fast-rotating speed that helps the hot gasses keep the raw meals in the air. To get the meal’s temperature equal to the gas, it keeps changing the meal between hot and cold. As we see, the dry process includes the kilns as well as the pre-heater. The majority of the cement plants are of this type.

The clinker cooler

The grate cooler is considered among many other types of coolers. The role of the clinker cooler is to cool the clinker. This is because of the following reasons:

Engineers say that cooling the equipment is necessary to prevent the damages caused to clinker operating equipment, which are supplied by Cement Plant Equipment Suppliers.

According to the cement performance point of view, the faster the cooling of the clinker, the faster and better the silicate reactivity.

Once the clinker is cool, it is either taken to the clinker mill or to the e-clinker store.
